Teofimo Lopez asserts that Subriel Matias, the IBF light welterweight champion, lacks versatility and is the least formidable fighter in the 140-pound division.
Following the news that Matias (20-1, 20 KOs) is in negotiations to defend his title against the undefeated Liam Paro in June or July in Puerto Rico, Teofimo, the WBO light welterweight champion, claims that Subriel is avoiding a fight with him.
Matias perceives Teofimo as feeble
Matias recently expressed his view on X that Teofimo is a coward who evades fighting the best. Teo has been making a spectacle of his triumph over a washed-up former undisputed 140-pound champion, Josh Taylor. However, hardcore boxing enthusiasts remain unimpressed.
They point out that Taylor’s victory over Jack Catterall, an ordinary contender, was controversial and that he seemed past his prime at the age of 33.
Casual fans in the United States are unfamiliar with Josh Taylor, so Teofimo’s victory over him went unnoticed. It was the wrong opponent for Teo to face if he wanted to impress both casual fans and hardcore enthusiasts.
Teofimo is set to defend his WBO title against Jamaine Ortiz (17-1-1, 8 KOs) this Thursday, February 8th, at the Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, broadcasted on ESPN and ESPN+.
Matias labeled as the “weakest fighter”
“Social media has made many of these boxers feeble because they think, ‘I don’t really have to fight anyone. I just have to mention their name.’ But he is the least formidable fighter in the division,” Teofimo stated to MillCity Boxing, referring to IBF light welterweight champion Subriel Matias.
“He is so one-dimensional that I can easily defeat Puerto Ricans. Puerto Ricans are easy to beat, and I don’t care if they take offense,” Teofimo added.
It would be preferable if Teofimo made an effort to arrange a fight with Matias instead of merely criticizing him and claiming that he doesn’t want to face him.
“No one wants to fight me, not even Subriel Matias. I just discovered that he will be fighting Liam Paro in June or July,” Teofimo Lopez informed the media, asserting that no one is willing to fight him.
“Didn’t Matias request a fight with me? Didn’t he express interest after my last fight? Can’t you see it? Are you all that blind? Nobody wants to fight Teofimo, and it’s time to prove why. The only way to do that is by thoroughly defeating Jamaine Ortiz.
