A couple of weeks ago, the New Orleans Saints made the choice to part ways with their long-standing offensive coordinator, Pete Carmichael. Carmichael had been in charge of the Saints’ offense since the 2009 season, but the team felt that a change was necessary this year. In his position, the Saints are reportedly set to hire Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, as per ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Twitter.
Kubiak, who specializes in the passing game, is currently with the San Francisco 49ers and is expected to join the Saints after Super Bowl LVIII. This upcoming game will be his final appearance with the 49ers, and it is worth noting that his father, Gary Kubiak, was also a part of the 49ers’ last Super Bowl victory. Klint Kubiak’s role with the 49ers is as their passing game specialist.
Before joining the 49ers this season, Kubiak had various coaching positions in the NFL. He began his coaching career in the league in 2013 as an offensive quality control coach for the Minnesota Vikings. After a brief departure from the NFL to serve as the wide receivers coach at the University of Kansas in 2015, Kubiak returned to the league in 2016 as an offensive assistant for the Denver Broncos. He remained with the Broncos for three years before rejoining the Vikings in 2019 as the quarterbacks coach. In 2021, Kubiak was promoted to offensive coordinator by the Vikings. However, following the firing of head coach Mike Zimmer during the 2022 offseason, Kubiak and most of the coaching staff were let go.
After a short stint with the Denver Broncos in 2022, Kubiak found himself with the 49ers in 2023. Now, he will have another opportunity to lead an entire offense as he joins the Saints after Sunday’s game.
