Tiger Woods has had to exit The Genesis Invitational due to flu-like symptoms, stealing the attention away from Will Zalatoris. Unfortunately, this setback overshadowed an impressive performance by Zalatoris, who scored a hole-in-one on the par-3 16th hole during the second round.
Zalatoris’s tee shot on the par-3 14th at Riviera Country Club landed directly into the cup, resulting in a hole-in-one. This not only earned him the standard Genesis Invitational prize of a Genesis GV80 but also an additional Genesis Electrified GV70 for his caddie. This was Zalatoris’s second hole-in-one in his professional career, with the first one occurring at the U.S. Open in 2020.
Zalatoris described the challenging shot, reminiscing about the wind against him and aiming between the bunkers. Despite the shot being slightly off, the ball landed perfectly and rolled into the hole, providing a stroke of luck and a pleasant surprise.
In a disappointing turn of events, Tiger Woods made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational due to flu symptoms and dehydration. Although he had been dealing with back spasms earlier in the week, it was confirmed that these issues were unrelated to his current condition.
According to Rob McNamara, EVP of TGR Ventures, Woods began feeling unwell the night before, experiencing flu-like symptoms that worsened by morning. Despite feeling slightly better during warm-up, he quickly became dizzy once he started moving around. Doctors diagnosed him with a form of flu and dehydration, but he is now showing signs of improvement and will soon be discharged.
McNamara emphasized that Woods’ previous injuries did not contribute to his withdrawal, as this was solely a medical issue. The focus now is on Woods’ health and recovery, with hopes for his swift return to the golf course to showcase his talent once again.
