The English Premier League is home to some of the most skilled defenders in the world. They possess exceptional game reading abilities, lightning-fast speed, are formidable in one-on-one situations, and are not afraid to make a strong tackle when necessary. Outsmarting these individuals is no easy task, particularly for young players.
Of course, there are a few exceptions, players who have managed to outperform seasoned veterans despite their limited experience in the Premier League. Today, we will briefly examine these exceptional individuals.

Thierry Henry, a legendary figure at Arsenal, was only 22 years and 263 days old when he embarked on a remarkable six-game scoring streak in the Premier League during the 1999-2000 season. Between March 19, 2000, and May 6, 2000, the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner scored eight goals and provided two assists. That season, Henry scored a total of 17 goals in 31 games.
Henry, who won two Premier League titles (2001-02, 2003-04) with Arsenal, appeared in 258 league matches, finding the back of the net 175 times. He remains the only player in history to have won four Premier League Golden Boots (2001-02, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06).
Romelu Lukaku, who had a disappointing spell at Chelsea, was a force to be reckoned with during his time at Everton. In the 2015-16 season, he achieved a remarkable milestone in the Premier League, surpassing Arsenal icon Thierry Henry to become the youngest player ever to score in six consecutive English top-flight fixtures. Lukaku was 22 years and 213 days old at the time. Between November 1 and December 12, 2015, he scored seven goals and provided two assists in the league. In the 2015-16 season, Lukaku scored a total of 18 goals and registered seven assists in 38 games.
Lukaku, who is currently on loan at AS Roma from Chelsea, has featured in a total of 278 Premier League games, scoring 121 goals and providing 43 assists.
Unlike most players in the Premier League, Erling Haaland wasted no time in settling in. The Norwegian striker scored two goals in his Premier League debut and provided an assist in the second game before embarking on a seven-game scoring streak. Haaland was only 22 years and 73 days old when he extended his scoring streak to six matches. In those six games, he scored an impressive 12 goals, including three hat-tricks. It comes as no surprise that the former Borussia Dortmund player finished the 2022-23 season as the league’s top scorer, netting 36 times in 35 games. This broke the record for the most goals scored in a single English top-flight season (based on the 38-game format).
Haaland has continued his impressive form in the 2023-24 season. As the current holder of the Golden Boot, he has scored 16 goals in 19 games, establishing himself as the league’s leading goalscorer.
Joe Willock, a midfielder for Newcastle United, ended the 2020-21 season on a high note by scoring in each of his last seven Premier League matches. At the age of 21 years and 272 days, the English international became the youngest player to score in six consecutive Premier League fixtures.
Willock, who came up through Arsenal’s youth academy, joined Newcastle United initially on loan in 2021 before making the move permanent. He has since played 81 Premier League matches, scoring 13 goals.
Rasmus Hojlund, a striker for Manchester United, extended his scoring streak to six games with a quickfire brace in a 2-1 victory over Luton Town on Sunday (February 18). At the age of 21 years and 14 days, the Danish attacker now holds the record for being the youngest player in Premier League history to score in six consecutive games. Since the start of his streak on December 26, he has scored a total of seven goals.
Hojlund, who joined Manchester United from Atalanta for a fee of €73.9 million ($79.7 million), took some time to find his form in England. Prior to his goalscoring run in December, he had not scored a goal or provided an assist in his first 14 Premier League matches. Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager, must be relieved to see his center-forward regain his top form during the crucial stages of the season.
