Prior to Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and Shubman Gill were also discovered in fabricated media.

A couple of weeks ago, a post was made on social media featuring a fabricated video of him endorsing a game called “Aviator”. The video encouraged gambling, highlighting how individuals can effortlessly make money using the app, and even claimed that his daughter utilized it as well. Tendulkar expressed his concern over the misuse of technology, and now, another deepfake video has emerged featuring him.
In this video, Kohli was seen alongside Aaj Tak news anchor, Anjana Om Kashyap, endorsing the same application as Tendulkar. The video showcased Kohli earning ₹23000 by investing just ₹1000, while emphasizing a 2000% return on investment. Although the video was initially uploaded on Facebook, it recently gained widespread attention. Both Kohli and Kashyap have not yet addressed the issue of deepfake videos.
Is this really @anjanaomkashyap ma’am and Virat Kohli? Or is it an exceptional feat of AI? If this is an extraordinary achievement of AI, then it is extremely dangerous. So much deception? If it is genuine, then it is not a problem at all. Please inform if anyone has any information. @imVkohli pic.twitter.com/Q5RnDE3UPr
This is not the first instance where a cricketer has been depicted in a manipulated photo using AI. Recently, Sara Tendulkar exposed a fake photo circulating on the internet, in which she and Shubman Gill were falsely portrayed together. Gill’s face was superimposed onto her brother, Arjun Tendulkar’s body.
The viral deepfake video of Virat Kohli has raised concerns among many fans regarding the misuse of technology. While some were aware of its falseness and called for action, others suggested that severe consequences should be imposed for the creation of such videos.
Oh brother, the lip sync and words are not matching up. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is incredibly dangerous. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, please address this issue on a public platform. AI has generated fake content in the past, even using the names of famous individuals like the Master Blaster and his daughter. This is a fraudulent and fake situation, and there should be a case against it for cybercrime. The advertisement for MPL is a complete scam, and it will take away all your money. My brother started playing this game, but I warned him about the reality, and he stopped playing. Many Facebook users can easily fall into the trap of AI, which is becoming increasingly realistic. There should be severe punishment for such deceptive activities. AI is truly dangerous and this is just the beginning. The government, including Digital India, Cyber Help India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Narendra Modi, and Amit Shah, needs to take action on these matters. I have also reported this ad twice, but Facebook has not removed it. It’s genuinely risky. Yes, AI is being used, and it poses a significant threat. The government should seriously consider this issue. Currently, Kohli is on personal leave and is not participating in the ongoing Test series against England. Reports suggest that he is absent due to his wife, Anushka Sharma, being pregnant with their second child. AB de Villiers, a close friend of Kohli, initially confirmed the pregnancy but later retracted his statement. The exact return date for Kohli’s cricket career is uncertain, but it is expected that he will make a comeback in the 2024 IPL.
