The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will face off at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII this Sunday. The highly-anticipated championship match will take place at the impressive venue in Nevada. Patrick Mahomes and his team will strive to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the second year in a row, while the 49ers, who are favored to win, aim to secure their first Super Bowl victory since 1994. As the players step onto the field at the Allegiant Stadium, accompanied by numerous A-List celebrities, we have all the details about the venue, including its construction cost.
The Allegiant Stadium, located in Las Vegas, was built at a staggering cost of nearly $2 billion, specifically $1.9 billion. This makes it the second-most expensive stadium in the world. It has a capacity of 65,000, which can be expanded to 71,835. The construction of the stadium received $750 million in taxpayer funding. Initially, the budget for the stadium’s construction was $1.8 billion, but it was increased twice, resulting in an additional expenditure of $175 million.
The expenses for the stadium include $78 million for acquiring the land, $1.33 billion for construction, and $123 million for furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Furthermore, $234 million was spent on design and engineering, and $31 million on utilities and infrastructure. As mentioned earlier, $750 million was contributed by taxpayers, while the remaining $1.1 billion was funded by the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL), who use the stadium as their home during the regular season.
The funding from the Las Vegas Raiders consisted of a $650 million loan from the Bank of America, $200 million from the NFL’s stadium loan program, and $300 million from naming rights, sponsorships, and personal seat licenses within the venue. In addition to the Raiders, the Allegiant Stadium is also home to the UNLV Rebels college football team, who relocated from the Sam Boyd Stadium in 2020.
The Allegiant Stadium has hosted various college football and NFL events, including the Pac-12 Football Championship Game, the Las Vegas Bowl, the Vegas Kickoff Classic, the East-West Shrine Bowl, the Shamrock Series, the 2021 Pro Bowl, and now, for the first time in its history, the Super Bowl. The stadium has also hosted soccer matches, featuring prominent fixtures like the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup final between the United States and Mexico, as well as club friendlies between Barcelona and Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United, and Barcelona and AC Milan.
Furthermore, the Allegiant Stadium is scheduled to host three matches during the 2024 Copa America, including group stage matches between Ecuador and Jamaica, Paraguay and Brazil, and a quarter-final match. The venue has also been the setting for various concerts, with performances from renowned artists such as the Rolling Stones, Metallica, Billy Joel, BTS, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Morgan Wallen, and many more over the past three years.
