We have already received positive news from Audi’s sports car division as the production of the R8 has been extended until March to meet the high demand for the powerful V10 supercar. We are also hopeful that the Audi RS 6 Avant GT will make its way to America, even if it’s just a limited number of the 660 examples available. Audi Sport has also promised to continue producing high-performance station wagons.
However, we are aware that in order to attract customers away from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Cadillac, Audi needs to offer a flagship crossover SUV. The company recently updated the Q7 for a second time, but it still falls short compared to the traditional Cadillac Escalade SUVs, Mercedes-Benz GLS models, and the unique BMW X7 favored by Americans.
But fear not, times are changing at Audi and the company is finally joining the large premium crossover party with the upcoming Q9 flagship CUV. The Q9 will share its platform with the refreshed Q7 and other related models such as the VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, and Lamborghini Urus. The first-ever Q9 will feature a spacious third row for adults, a longer wheelbase, and increased overall length.
The Q9 is also rumored to introduce a new split-headlight design at Audi. The prototypes that have been spotted and the imaginative work of digital car content creators suggest this possibility. One such creator is the AutoYa info channel on YouTube, which has a satellite venue called AutoYa Interior. It is in this venue that they have showcased the CGI version of the Q9 in their latest video.
The CGI expert at AutoYa spared no expense in making the Q9 appear as close to the real thing as possible. However, it is important to take all this information with a grain of salt until we see the actual vehicle in the real world. According to the host, the Q9 is expected to be six inches (15 cm) longer than the Q7 to compete with the Mercedes GLS and BMW X7.
In the video, the CGI expert also showcases the Q9 in various exterior colors and gives us a glimpse of the high-tech cockpit. The interior features a large panel for the digital instrument cluster and central infotainment system, as well as an auxiliary display unit for the passenger. Just like the exterior, there will be plenty of luxurious color options to choose from.
However, one question remains – would you be willing to pay a premium for an Audi flagship that has a unique design when there are already excellent options available such as the 2024 BMW X7, the classic Mercedes-Benz GLS, and the ever-popular Cadillac Escalade?
