The upcoming iQL (iQ Long) from Cadillac, known for its tabloid format, is set to be a spacious luxury SUV. This electric Escalade is already longer than its ICE-powered counterpart and just three inches shorter than the long-wheelbase Escalade ESV.
Cadillac has not provided a specific deadline for the release of the longer variant, but it has been confirmed by a brand representative at the 2024 Chicago Auto Show that it will be making its way to the US market. The iQL is expected to join the extensive lineup later this year.
The release of the iQL is anticipated to take place in either the last quarter of 2024 or the first quarter of 2025. However, it will not be launched until after the standard-wheelbase iQ, which is scheduled for delivery this upcoming summer.
The iQ with an extended wheelbase will maintain the same stylish design, featuring vertical headlights and an intelligent grille with shutters. The vertical taillights will mirror the front light units. While the design features will be retained, the proportions will differ.
The standard variant measures 224.3 inches (5,697 millimeters) in length, making it 12.4 inches (315 millimeters) longer than the ICE-powered Escalade and nearly as long as the ESV version. The wheelbase stretches 136.2 inches (3,460 millimeters), even longer than the Escalade ESV’s 134.1 inches (3,406 millimeters). The iQL’s eTrunk front luggage will also provide more cargo space compared to the current iQ, offering 12.2 cubic feet (344.4 liters).
Underpinned by the Ultium EV platform, the iQL will utilize a high-voltage architecture that supports both 400-volt and 800-volt charging. With the latter, the range can reach up to 100 miles (161 kilometers) in just 10 minutes.
Equipped with a large 200-kWh battery pack, the standard version of the iQL boasts an impressive range of 450 miles (724 kilometers). However, the extended-wheelbase model may experience slightly lower figures due to the additional weight.
The long-wheelbase Escalade will feature the same powertrain as the standard-wheelbase version, utilizing a dual-motor layout that delivers 750 horsepower in Velocity Mode. This enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in under 5 seconds. Due to the added weight of the iQL, the upcoming model may have slightly slower acceleration.
When the new variant is released later this year or in 2025, it is expected that there will be a price increase to account for the extra length and space. Currently, the Cadillac Escalade iQ starts at $130,000.
