Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott has the potential to become a very wealthy man in the upcoming season. Speculation is spreading on social media that he will soon set a new standard for quarterback salaries.
This news comes as a result of the Cowboys putting themselves in a difficult position during contract negotiations, leaving them with little choice but to pay up.
Several factors will influence this decision, many of which center around how Prescott’s previous deals were handled.
These factors include the use of franchise tags and his possession of a no-trade clause.
A reminder of the significant leverage Dak Prescott will have over the Cowboys during extension talks this offseason…
– His 2024 cap number is an astonishing $59.45 million.
– He cannot be tagged next year, which means he can become an unrestricted free agent regardless of the circumstances.

“Prescott has one year remaining on his contract and holds all the power to demand that the Cowboys make him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history,” states NFL reporter Ari Meirov on X.
Essentially, the Cowboys cannot trade Prescott to another team, and if they refuse to meet his demands, he can leave as an unrestricted free agent.
A lose-lose situation!
The only potential positive outcome? Opening up the checkbook.

Not only are the Cowboys restricted in their negotiations, but Prescott is coming off his most impressive season to date. The quarterback led the league in touchdowns and completions while maintaining a solid 4/1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
He achieved a 12-5 record as a starter, leading the Cowboys to an NFC East championship and another playoff berth. Unfortunately, Dallas was defeated in their first postseason game against the Packers, leaving Prescott with a playoff record of 2-5.
The Cowboys have been questioning whether Prescott is a franchise quarterback throughout his professional career. In 2024, they may have no choice but to retain him – at a significant cost.
