Michael Bisping believes that the lineup for UFC 300 is receiving undeserved criticism. It took some time for the main event of UFC 300 to be announced, but it was finally revealed on Saturday that the light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira, will be defending his title against Jamahal Hill on April 13 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. While many people have expressed disappointment with this choice as the headliner for the historic pay-per-view, Bisping strongly disagrees.
Bisping expressed his excitement about the fight during an interview with TNT Sports. He stated, “This is fantastic news and a brilliant fight. I’m relieved that we finally have an answer to the question that everyone has been asking: What will be the main event of UFC 300? From the beginning, I believed that this fight was a strong contender. While it would have been great to see Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor, Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic, or Tom Aspinall in the main event, we knew that those matchups were not going to happen.”
Bisping also defended the choice of Jamahal Hill as the rightful No. 1 contender and praised Alex Pereira for his accomplishments as a two-weight division champion and his victories over former champions. He added, “The rise of Pereira in the UFC has been phenomenal, and when you combine it with the rest of the fights on this incredible fight card, it’s hard to understand all the criticism online. Almost every single fight on this card could be a main event. It’s truly a phenomenal event.”
