A spectator at The American Express golf tournament had a surprising experience during the opening round. Adam Schenk’s errant shot on the 16th hole ended up in the viewer’s drink. The incident was captured on video and quickly gained popularity on social media.
Schenk’s shot, taken from a distance of 260 yards from the green, veered far to the right of the fairway. Instead of landing where intended, it miraculously found its way into the spectator’s cup.
As officials followed the trajectory of the ball, it seemed to vanish before hitting the ground. After a moment of confusion, it was discovered inside the bystander’s beverage.
The unexpected turn of events garnered a surprised reaction from the onlooker. “I caught that right in my chest!” he exclaimed. The ball promptly bounced off his body and directly into his cup.
This fortunate landing prevented Schenk’s shot from bouncing off the hilly terrain. He went on to birdie the par-5 hole, expressing his gratitude to the spectator by offering to buy him a drink.
At the end of the day, Schenk finished with a score of two-under par, placing him in a tie for 98th position. Although the birdie helped his standings, he still trails behind the tournament leaders, Zach Johnson and Alex Noren, who finished at -10.
Schenk will aim to improve his position on Friday as he continues to compete in the tournament.
