Many believe that Bill Belichick was the cause of Tom Brady not finishing his career with the Patriots, and a new documentary that chronicles their time together seems to confirm this with testimonies from players who witnessed it all.
Apple TV+ announced last year that they were preparing to release The Dynasty, a docuseries that focuses on the extraordinary run of the New England Patriots at the turn of the century, thanks in large part to the contributions of Bill Belichick and the legendary Tom Brady.
The 10-part project, set to be released on February 16th, has generated significant interest due to its use of previously unseen footage and interviews with key figures from the dynasty. These interviews shed light on the individuals who are credited for the team’s success.
Although the series has not been released yet, The Athletic had the privilege of previewing it and published an article containing some revealing excerpts that portray Belichick in a negative light.
One quote from Brady, in particular, caught the attention of many. He essentially confirms that his strained relationship with the notoriously strict head coach was the reason he chose to continue his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, stating:
“Coach Belichick and I did what we loved and competed together for 20 years, but I had no intention of signing another contract, even if I wanted to play until 50. Given how things had unfolded, I couldn’t subject myself to more of it.”
Other Patriots players who participated in The Dynasty also expressed similar sentiments about Belichick’s management style. According to The Athletic, retired wide receiver Wes Welker compared Brady’s loyalty to an abused dog who kept returning to work for Belichick.
It’s safe to assume that The Dynasty will provide plenty of captivating revelations when it premieres on Friday, so make sure to have your popcorn ready.
