Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, has issued his first public statement regarding the tragic shooting that took place during the team’s Super Bowl parade on Wednesday.
According to reports, the shooting started near Union Station in downtown Kansas City at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time.
Less than an hour after the incident, Mahomes took to Twitter to express his prayers for the city of Kansas City.

The Chiefs and their supporters were celebrating their third Super Bowl victory in four years when gunshots erupted near Union Station. The latest reports indicate that 10 individuals were shot, with 3 in critical condition and 1 fatality.
Prior to the parade, Kansas City officials anticipated a turnout of approximately 1 million people. The two suspects involved in the shooting have been apprehended, but their identities have not been disclosed.
Authorities released a statement urging people to evacuate the area promptly and avoid the parking garage to ensure the prompt treatment of the victims.
“Numerous officers are securing Union Station and working diligently to ensure the safety of everyone present and expedite the care of those who have been injured,” the police stated.
NBC News reports that officials believe the shooting to be a criminal act and not an act of terrorism.
As of now, the National Football League has not issued an official statement regarding this tragic incident.
